My 30 Day Zip - Day 11

I just had to try the energy wrap from Riverfront Cafe again today.  I really think I could eat those several times a week.  I think the peanut butter, strawberries, bananas and almonds on a wheat bread wrap is something that really does give a boost of energy in the morning.  It was another great start to my day.

For lunch I tried another delicious dish from Marie Catribs.  I honestly don’t know why that place is not touted as one of the best food joints in Grand Rapids.  The funny thing is that (since I’ve only had my food delivered from Marie Catribs) I have no idea what the restaurant actually looks like.  But I’ve tried two great sandwiches from there and the rest of the menu looks just as good.  Today’s meal was a roast beef sandwich.  According to the menu the sandwich contained thin slices of locally-raised beef, topped with fresh garden greens, tomatoes, onions, swiss cheese and their “frisky” feta and horseradish mayonnaise.  Everything from Marie Catribs looks like it came straight from a local garden or farm.  I love the fact that their entire menu promotes locally grown and raised food.  I don’t personally know the people at Marie Catribs, but I really respect their mission.

My lunch was delivered by another awesome new Zipments courier named Tim.  Like many other Zipments couriers I’ve met on my 30 Day Zip, this was Tim’s first zipment.  When Tim’s not “zipping” items around town, he works at Biggby Coffee

For those of you who reside outside the midwest, Biggby is a very successful coffee franchise.  Several years ago, when Starbucks was dominating the North American coffee market, many would have thought the Biggby founders were crazy to franchise their coffee shops.  But they have grown steadily over the years and have developed a loyal following - in big part because of the awesome Biggby employees, like Tim!  BTW, I’m a big fan of Biggby not only because they have great people and great coffee, but also because they promote Zipments in their stores throughout the Grand Rapids area.  Along with other great coffee shops in the Grand Rapids area, Biggby is serving their customers beyond the four walls of their coffee shops when they promote fast & affordable coffee and food deliveries via Zipments couriers.

Ok…confession time!  Today I broke from my challenge for a bit.  It was nearing 5:00pm on a Friday and our team had one heck of a week.  Great meetings, great work on upcoming features, great strategy sessions, you name it.  Anyone who’s ever been part of a start-up will tell you that you have to enjoy the “highs” when you get them, because another “low” is right around the corner.  Conversely, lows never last forever because another high will be coming along soon.  The start-up world is a never ending emotional roller coaster, so when we have a good week, we have to take time out to relax and kick back with a cold one.  That being said, today I had 1 beer with my teammates and with some friends at a bar and the beer was not delivered to me via Zipments.  It was the only thing I’ve consumed outside of water and a few cooking ingredients that wasn’t delivered to me these past 11 days.  Now, I’m pleased with my 30 Day Zip efforts so far…and I don’t want to crack at the first sign of temptation…but my family, friends and team are important to me…so today, I had a beer!  Speaking of “crack,” I did fight back temptation while my friends were chopping away on a plate full of Hopcat’s famous crack fries!

I ended the day with an empty stomach.  By the time I arrived home, I didn’t feel like ordering any food.  I just relaxed with the family and later drifted off to sleep, pleased with the team’s efforts this week…and dreaming of crack fries!
